Inspirational! Heart-rending! Phony as a 3-dollar bill!!!

Take heart, fellow victims of Urban Legend Bombardment!

You are not alone.

Sooner or later, this one will hit your in-box, so be prepared. Whether you want to fire back with "Check Snopes before you send me this crap, you idiot!" or just diplomatically delete it, this will perhaps save you a few mouse clicks.

It's not true, and wasn't true back in 1945.

Note: The urban legend may be preceded by some lovely photos of paintings rendered on feathers ... Snopes doesn't have anything to say about that. The photos could be 'shopped, or they could be real, but they're nice to look at. Too bad so much time and effort is spent promoting religious schmaltz rather than a talented artist.

The internet makes it ridiculously easy to spread nonsense of ANY kind, be it religious or whatever. Witness the lies that circulated about Obama.
I have a relative who always forwards these stupid emails. I used to go to Snopes to debunk the crap, then do a "reply all" explaining why it wasn't true.
He still forwards me emails, but now he uses BCC so I can't make him look like an idiot to everyone else.

Lugosi,

That is so funny -- and so lame -- that your relative just won't get the hint, but still manages to put up a defense.

My BFF did not vote for Obama, to put it mildly, and she has a wingnut friend who sent her every conceivable anti-Obama e-mail, which she then proceeded to forward to me. Finally, salvation came in the form of Sarah Palin, and I reciprocated by sending her a Palin parody/joke/late-night monologue, etc. every time I got one of her annoying Obama e-mails. She DID take the hint.

We're still friends, by some miracle of the ordered universe.

I could never really understand the need that some people have to make crap up.

One of my FaceBook Friends commented on someone else's photo. The picture was of an angel in the front window of an NYFD Firetruck. It was supposed to have been taken on 9/11/01.

There were 8 other comments on the photo; "How inspirational," "How touching," "How wonderful to have them watching over the NYFD.." My friend's comment was "I don't know if it is true or a hoax, but it sure is inspirational. That day changed my life."

What utter crap this all was. And Barbara, making the stuff up is bad enough. I don't get why people pass it along.

It wasn't too long ago that I was still getting e-mails claiming that Madaline Murray-H'Hare (sic) was trying to take the show "Touched by an Angel" off the air.
